In the portable line segment of ALO Audio’s, the Continental Dual Mono (CDM) is its latest release. The CDM is known as a semi-portable hybrid headphone amplifier with DAC combo produced through the teamwork of ALO Audio and Vinnie Rossi of Red Wine Audio. Due to which, the CDM includes SS amplification and mono balanced tube, a kick-ass DAC with DSD competences, top-quality low-noise battery-driven circuitry.
The ALO Continental Dual Mono is designed with a soft-touch matte finished, 100% CNC machined aluminum enclosure in either black or silver, and brushed aluminum sizes. The device has a clear Gorilla Glass window, letting you to see both 6111 tubes and the ALO emblem among them. It features balanced and single-ended inputs/outputs. It seriously takes digital conversion and features a well-designed DAC section. The CDM uses Wolfson’s WM8741 DAC chip that comes with low noise and sounds brilliantly. The jitter also gets reduced with a high-quality clock IC. The DAC is well-suited with Windows and MAC computers and supports 24-bit/192kHz PCM conversion and DSD 64. While playing on different sample rate, the CDM will show a different colored LED like Red for 44/48, Blue for 88/96, Green for 176/192, and White for DSD.
The CDM sounds as a full-size tube amplifier and creates a refined and inviting sound. The treble is smooth, detailed and extended. The midrange is deep with a natural tube tonality, however it also retains robust qualities delivering fresh and forceful presentation. The bass is focused, punchy, and tight. So, at the end, CDM is great and it is tough to find any fault!
