Yamaha’s Unique ARMODYNAMIC™ Driver Employing ZYLON™

With a name derived from the Italian term “armonia,” referring to musical “harmony,” the ARMODYNAMIC™ driver was developed specifically for the YH-C3000. The driver utilises a unique diaphragm molded into a three-layer structure featuring composite materials such as paper and resin, and includes PBO fiber ZYLON™, the same material also used in diaphragms of Yamaha’s Hi-Fi flagship speakers. By harmonising the important elements for a diaphragm—light weight, rigidity and optimal internal loss—the driver achieves exceptionally smooth sound with high resolution and fast response. To properly harmonize the sound with the new diaphragm, the driver unit has been carefully conceived and developed. Ventilation on the back and the patented Y-shaped reinforced mesh damper provide extraordinary clarity and minimal distortion while maintaining low-frequency volume. The pure iron pole piece, crucial to the unit’s driving force, enhances fast sound response and powerful punchiness.

The wooden housing of the YH-C3000 is made of premium-quality beech, also employed in Yamaha’s grand pianos. Being light in weight, highly rigid, and achieving a natural and uncolored sound, beech wood fully maximises the strength of the ARMODYNAMIC™ driver, contributing to excellent resolution and speedy response.

The Comfort in Becoming One with the Music

Yamaha crafted a lightweight set of headphones that makes the listener forget they are even wearing them. The headphones are simply natural and comfortable.

The headband employs a structure inherited from Yamaha’s flagship YH-5000SE headphones, comprised of a solid stainless steel arm with lateral pressure optimised to reduce burden on the ears and head. The head pad features three-dimensional weaving of moderate thickness, flexibly dispersing surface pressure. The stepless slider allows fine adjustment for a personal fit.

To eliminate bias in localisation from air leakage and ensure rich low-frequency volume, the housing fits snugly behind the ear. The design stabilises surface pressure by tilting the swivel’s rotation axis to provide vertical mobility, firmly fitting the headphones to ears and head. Combined with a sealed yet lightweight body of 330 grams, the YH-C3000 provides comfortable, fatigue-free listening even for long periods.

Earpads Provide Comfortable Fit and Deep Immersion

Dedicated ear pads were developed through prototypes and extensive testing. The ear-touching materials are high-quality domestic silk protein leather, paired with memory foam cushioning. This ensures sonic density, airtightness, stability, and immersive comfort. The deep crimson inner mesh complements the black mirrored housing, creating an exquisite appearance like a fine musical instrument.

Each type of wood has unique personality, requiring skill to shape into a housing. The YH-C3000’s beech housing is crafted with long-standing expertise from procurement and processing to painting and polishing. Multiple sanding, painting, and polishing layers create a black mirrored finish that remains semi-transparent, showing the natural wood grain beneath.

All parts of the YH-C3000—such as the housings and driver unit—require high technical skill and precision. This model is assembled at Yamaha’s own factory in Japan, which also produces flagship grand pianos and audio products. Under strict quality control, the headphones are carefully assembled by skilled craftsmen with expertise in both musical instruments and audio.
