Sennheiser’s new HD 660 S updates the popular 600 series lineup with a new driver and a more neutral tuning. The HD 660 S is decorated in matte black, unlike the marble esque HD 600 and HD 650, with a slightly looser and updated headband and pad shape. The HD 660 S can be described as having a clear, and neutral sound signature, with the widest soundstage of the 600 series. The 660 S effortlessly conveys intimacy whilst accurately placing instruments, has powerful, yet controlled bass, and sparkly treble. For a similar sound but a sweeter, more gentle treble response, you may want to try the Audio Technica ATH-R70x.
The Sennheiser HD 660 S has a lower impedance of 150 Ohms, compared to the 300 Ohms of the HD 600 and HD 650. The lower impedance is perfect for lower powered amplifier setups and portable players, giving the user more flexibility in their sources. The 660s still demands more power than a typical portable headphone. If you plan on using a portable DAP with the HD660s, we do recommend using the included 4.4mm balanced connection.
The Sennheiser HD 660 S is bundled with a single ended standard 6.35mm cable (3m long), a 3.5mm adapter, and a balanced 4.4mm Pentaconn terminated cable (3m long), compatible with the Sennheiser HDV820 amplifier and DAPs such as the Sony WM1A. The Sennheiser HD 660 S is packaged in a svelte hard storage case, filled with foam to protect the headphone during transit.
