Description / Meze Audio Arta Planar Magnetic Headphone
Meze Audio ARTA: A NEW DIMENSION OF REALISM
Meze Audio ARTA delivers a rich, speaker-like presentation with lifelike detail, offering the most immersive sonic experience Meze have ever created. The soundstage expands naturally beyond the confines of the ear, projecting music around you with the organic spaciousness of an acoustically treated listening room. Bass carries physical weight, and instruments occupy real positions within a vivid, three-dimensional stage. The result is not just something you hear, it is something you inhabit.

A FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT PLANAR MAGNETIC DRIVER
This level of technical performance is made possible through the use of an advanced new High Impedance Isodynamic® Hybrid Array driver developed by Rinaro Isodynamics: the MZ5 HΩ. It is the single highest impedance planar magnetic headphone transducer to date, delivering exceptional linearity, stability, and signal purity.
RINARO Isodynamics
- 225 Ohms Impedance Planar Magnetic Driver
- New Low Mass Parus Arta Membrane
- 2.5x Longer, 2.8x Thinner Trace
225 OHMS OF IMPEDANCE* FOR EFFORTLESS CONTROL
Unlike conventional planar magnetic designs, which operate in a low-voltage, high-current mode, the MZ5 HΩ’s high impedance design allows it to operate in a high-voltage, low-current mode. This translates into unprecedented electrical linearity across the audible spectrum. Moreover, less current means less heat and stress on the diaphragm, allowing ARTA to deliver ultra-low distortion and dynamic compression at any listening volume.
*Nominal impedance 225Ω ±10%. Left and right drivers carefully matched for perfect channel balance

UNIFORM FORCE DISTRIBUTION
The planar magnetic trace is 2.5 times longer, with a cross-sectional surface area 2.8 times smaller, achieving a higher-density trace geometry that spreads electromagnetic drive more evenly across the membrane. This results in incredibly consistent on-axis and off-axis response without localised stress points, and the membrane moves as a unified whole, preserving transient integrity and keeping distortion vanishingly low even at demanding listening levels.
EXCEPTIONAL THERMAL STABILITY
The new Rinaro Parus ARTA® membrane is made of a low-mass composite material, engineered to resist thermal drift during extended sessions. This keeps timbral accuracy and transient response consistent as the driver heats and cools, regardless of listening volume.

DUAL-SHAPED VOICE COIL ARRAY
Two coil geometries, each tuned to a specific frequency range.
The switchback coil handles low frequencies from the upper driver position.
The spiral coil reproduces mid-high frequencies directly toward the ear canal, ensuring the most direct path for sound, with no time delay.

SOURCE AND CABLE VERSATILITY
ARTA’s high-impedance* design minimises sensitivity to amplifier output impedance variations, ensuring the headphone's own acoustic character remains consistent regardless of amplification. Whether driven by tube or solid-state amplifiers, the tuning you hear is the tuning Meze designed, not an artifact of the electrical interface. That said, these headphones are a pure window into your entire signal chain: the subtle warmth of a tube amplifier, the precision of a high-end solid-state design, all faithfully reflected. For the discerning listener, this is an invitation to explore, experiment, and make the sound truly their own.
*Amplification requirement: Designed for desktop amplification. The ARTA headphones are optimized for high-voltage sources and perform best with capable desktop DAC/amp setups.
The high impedance design ensures that cable resistance contributes negligibly to the total electrical load, preserving the headphone's intended character across a wide range of cable choices.
ANGLED ACOUSTIC BLADES
ARTA’s open-back grille is composed of angled acoustic blades that help preserve the headphones’ sound quality while providing physical protection to the driver.
The grille geometry is carefully designed to work in concert with the Rinaro MZ5 HΩ driver’s precision, ensuring that enclosure acoustics do not constrain the transducer’s performance.
BORN IN ROMANIA
Everything from acoustic tuning and mechanical design to quality control and assembly happens at Meze's headquarters in Baia Mare, Romania. The team brings both a trained ear for sonic detail and a meticulous eye for build precision, ensuring each pair of ARTA headphones delivers the sound clarity, comfort, and ergonomic refinement Meze is known for.
LIVING METAL
Meze has transformed cold metal into a living, sculptural object that feels like a work of art in motion. ARTA’s design transcends conventional headphone aesthetics, blending futuristic, bionic fluidity with refined Art Nouveau elegance. The materials tell the same story: precision metals, carbon fiber, and leather, each one premium, each one purposeful.

TWO HIGH-QUALITY CABLES INCLUDED
Two 2 m (6.6 ft) cables are included, each featuring silver-plated Linear Crystal Oxygen-Free Copper (LC-OFC) conductors arranged in a dual-strand configuration, with 161 individual conductors per strand. Insulated in SoftFlex PVC for enhanced comfort and flexibility, both cables incorporate CNC-anodized aluminum housings. One is terminated in a 6.3 mm single-ended jack, the other in a 4-pin XLR balanced connector, covering both single-ended and balanced listening.
The construction is optimized for low resistance, signal integrity, and long-term durability, ensuring seamless compatibility with a wide range of full-sized desktop amplifiers and high-end audio systems.
HEAVENLY COMFORT
ARTA sets a new standard for long-session listening at the summit of headphone design. Meze has optimised their flagship planar build to perfectly fit larger and smaller heads alike, while also providing additional padding on the leather headband, making an already extremely comfortable design even more pleasant to wear and for longer periods of time.

BUILT FOR GENERATIONS
Built to last is not a promise Meze makes lightly. The ARTA has been designed to endure - every component, from the earpads and headband to the drivers and earcups, can be fully disassembled, serviced, or replaced. Because an artistic headphone made to this standard should never become waste, but rather appreciate with the passing of time.
Meze designed ARTA to be technically capable and musically engaging in equal measure — striking that balance was the entire point. Resolution and immersion are treated as two goals held in deliberate tension, because pushing too hard for either one can unbalance the other. Rather than favouring one side, ARTA was refined until it resolves detail with real precision while presenting that detail as a coherent, immersive whole. The result gives the listener both the technical grip to hear deep into a recording and the musical ease to simply get lost in it.
ARTA is voiced for a rich, natural, speaker-like presentation with a strong sense of physical foundation. In the bass, it carries real weight and authority, sitting beneath and supporting the rest of the music with control and definition — Meze shifted the driver's resonant behaviour lower to give the low end its ease and authority. The mids and treble are tuned so that no part of the frequency response pulls focus; when the upper mids or treble become too dominant, that sense of solidity is lost, so the voicing deliberately avoids any brightness that would work against it. Overall the presentation is coherent, immersive and three-dimensional, comfortable over long sessions, with exceptional detail retrieval and clear separation between layers.
ARTA is designed to project a large, room-like acoustic space. The soundstage opens up well beyond the ears, instruments take up real positions within a vivid three-dimensional stage, and each layer separates cleanly — giving a strong sense of depth and spatial realism.
ARTA is not a reworked Elite. It is built around an entirely new, purpose-designed driver — the Rinaro MZ5 HΩ — and takes a deliberate step in a direction Meze first noticed with the Empyrean and the Elite. Listeners kept describing those headphones in unusually physical, speaker-like terms, and with ARTA the aim was to take that physicality and immersion further while advancing technical performance in equal measure. The driver and tuning were developed to deliver sharper resolution and a more coherent, effortless whole at the same time, so nothing is traded away to get there.
Yes — and the differences are structural rather than cosmetic. At 225Ω, its impedance sits far above that of most planars, letting it run in a high-voltage, low-current mode that keeps the diaphragm cooler and under less stress; this is heard as cleaner, lower-distortion sound that stays composed at any volume. Rinaro also reworked the diaphragm's corrugation pattern and the way mechanical stress is distributed, shifting the driver's resonant behaviour lower for greater authority in the low end. The planar trace geometry is two and a half times longer with a cross-section almost three times smaller, spreading the electromagnetic drive more evenly for consistent on-axis and off-axis response and extremely low distortion. The Rinaro Parus ARTA diaphragm itself weighs just 0.10g across 4,650mm² of active area, made from a low-mass composite engineered for increased thermal stability.
ARTA is optimised for high-voltage sources, so it performs best with a capable desktop DAC and amplifier — a desktop amp is exactly what it was built for. It works happily with both tube and solid-state designs, and its high impedance keeps the tuning consistent either way, so the listener hears the warmth of a tube amp or the precision of a solid-state design and ARTA responds beautifully to either. While a powerful portable source is still worth experimenting with, the recommendation is a proper desktop amplifier, since that is where ARTA truly comes into its own. The power requirements table is the best guide to whether a given player has the headroom.
ARTA is built for desktop amplification and optimised for high-voltage sources, with substantial power and voltage-swing needs. Most portable players will not reach the recommended voltage swing of ±15 to 18V, or 500mW and above into 225Ω, so a desktop setup is the recommendation. For anyone wanting to try a particularly powerful DAP, the power figures listed under the amplifier question are the best guide to whether it has the necessary headroom.
Yes. ARTA acts as a clear window onto the entire signal chain, faithfully reflecting the character of whatever feeds it — whether that's the warmth of a tube amp or the precision of a high-end solid-state design. That transparency means it rewards better sources and amplification. Its high impedance also pairs particularly well with high-end amplifiers, which tend to behave more linearly into higher impedance loads.
ARTA was designed around a proper desktop amplifier, so good amplification is part of the intended experience by design rather than a happy accident. At the same time, its high impedance actively reduces sensitivity to differences in amplifier output impedance, so ARTA's own character stays consistent across capable amps — the tuning heard is the one Meze designed, not a by-product of the electrical interface. In short, the amplifier matters for driving ARTA well and for revealing the chain, but the core character belongs to the headphone itself.
Yes. ARTA is a genuine all-rounder, and it is especially rewarding with classical, acoustic and jazz, live recordings and vocal material, progressive rock and metal, and atmospheric electronic music. Its wide bandwidth, low distortion, grounded low end and immersive presentation let it move comfortably across styles.
Yes. ARTA is designed to be fully serviceable — every component, including the earpads, headband, drivers and earcups, can be taken apart, serviced or replaced. For Meze this matters because a headphone made to this standard should grow more valuable with time rather than end up as waste.
