iBasso DC–Tonfa utilizes a 24bit fully balanced discrete R2R DAC architecture. It condenses a desktop DAC level 8channel R2R DAC into a compact form factor. The 8channel R2R, true balanced fully differential architecture effectively resolves zero–crossing distortion and improves low–level linearity performance. While retaining the R2R's musicality, it offers detail and performance that surpasses traditional R2R designs. Balancing density, dynamics, and a natural sound, DC-Tonfa delivers the true charm of R2R technology even in its compact form.
312 Pieces of High-precision Metal Film Resistors Three Times That of Other R2R Dongles & Traditional R2R DACs
DC–Tonfa is equipped with a total of 312pcs low–temperature stabilized high–precision metal film resistors that make up the build of the R2R resistor network. The total number of resistors far exceeds that of traditional single–ended R2R DACs. With a hardware resistor compensation network built from 60 high–precision resistors, combined with FPGA software algorithms, the resistance value tolerance and temperature drift are strictly controlled, resulting in a significant improvement in linearity and consistency, which lay the foundation for pure and realistic sound reproduction.

With 20 years dedicated to the portable HiFi field, iBasso has accumulated extensive in-house audio algorithms. DC–Tonfa employs proprietary FPGA algorithms that can compensate for individual resistor tolerance in real–time, further enhancing the effective accuracy of R2R decoding. Paired with dual Accusilicon femtosecond oscillators, it creates a precise and unified clock source. This effectively reduces jitter impact, resulting in purer, more natural sound with richer and more authentic details.
NOS Mode + Four Proprietary Digital Filters Unlocking More Diverse Sound Potential
For a long time, OS and NOS have almost been the only options for R2R DACs. However with our advanced proprietary FPGA algorithms, DC–Tonfa breaks through traditional framework limitations and has developed four proprietary digital filters beyond NOS, bringing richer sound expression capabilities to R2R. While preserving the unique charm of R2R and providing users with greater freedom for sound exploration.
Powerful Output in a Compact Size
DC–Tonfa not only excels in R2R decoding but also delivers outstanding performance in analog amplification. Utilizing an OPAMP + BUF architecture, with 2pcs high–performance TI dual OPAMPs and 4pcs BUF634A buffers, it builds an audio amplification circuit that far exceeds most other dongles. With a power output reaching up to 800mW + 800mW @ 32Ω, it provides abundant driving power and strong dynamic performance, which easily handles a wide range of headphone types and harder to drive IEMs!
Linear LT3042 Ultra-low Noise LDO
In the DAC core, a Linear LT3042 ultra–low noise LDO creates a dedicated regulated power supply. With an output noise as low as 0.8μV and 100dB power ripple suppression, its noise performance even surpasses that of most battery power solutions. It provides a pure and stable power environment for the 8channel R2R DAC, fully unleashing the potential of audio tracks.

Thanks to efficient circuit design, although DC–Tonfa delivers top–tier power output among compact DACs, its actual power consumption is very well controlled, achieving a balance between high output and low power consumption. In NOS mode, power consumption is below 100mA/5V (at 48k sampling rate), significantly reducing the load on smartphone power supplies. Even when paired with power–limited devices like iPhones, you can enjoy a long musical session.
Convenient Operation, All-in-one Control
DC–Tonfa is equipped with a 0.96–inch OLED display and it features a custom encoder, allowing full–function settings through the multi–function knob on the device. Volume adjustment, function settings, filter switching, and more can be done with one knob, providing a more intuitive, efficient and enjoyable control experience.
