The Audio-Technica MSR7B is an update to the classic MSR7. This is a headphone for fans of Audio Technica’s classic vocal forward tuning. With comfortable, lush memory foam earpads and a revised, ultra-lightweight design, the MSR7B is equally at home for use while commuting and on the couch. The MSR7B comes with detachable cables using Audio Technica's sturdy A2DC connector, with a standard 3.5mm cable and a new 4.4mm balanced cable included. A carrying pouch for transporting or storing the headphones completes the updated package.
The MSR7B features new carbon coated drivers, similar to the MSR7 Limited Edition. However, the sound is relatively unchanged from the original MSR7. The headphone has a musical, slightly vocal-bright sound signature that is less bassy than most portable headphones in this category. The result is a headphone that tends to emphasise the voices without introducing harshness.
If you are after a slightly warmer and bassier sound signature that still remains balanced, consider the Oppo PM3. For a more linear frequency response for professional use, consider the Audio Technica ATH-M70x.
