The ATH-M70x is Audio Technica's flagship closed back studio monitor, and offers accurate, detailed sound in a well-built, professional package.

The ATH-M70x is a tool for professional studio monitoring, and features a durable design with aluminium ear cups that swivel 90 degrees and fold flat for easy transport. The M70x comes included with a high quality travel case for protection. The circumaural (around-ear) earpads block out external noise and are comfortable for multi-hour studio sessions. The headphone also features detachable cables, with a set of 3 cables included: 1.2m straight cable for mobile use, and a 1.2-3.0m coiled cable and 3.0m straight cable for home / studio use.

In terms of sound, the M70x has a accurate, 'flat' frequency response throughout the bass frequencies well up into high frequencies. It's detailed sound, particularly in the treble, allows engineers and producers to hear distortion and sibilance in the mix. However, as a professional tool, the sound is less bassy and has more high frequencies than many people would be accustomed to with typical gear, even when compared to Audio Technica's own ATH-M50x and ATH-M60x monitors. If critical, accurate monitoring is a priority, the M70x is a good choice, but you may find the sound too lean for casual music listening.

If you are looking for a open-backed studio monitor with an accurate, but gentler sound, consider Audio Technica's ATH-R70x.
